I don't think collectors made them, I think someone at the mint in quality control saw loose inserts, or inserts that were jiggling or rotating, and maybe found if they turned them around they fit more snug, or fixed them not realizing they put them in backwards. If they actually made a die backwards, if you think about it, there would be no reason to pay another $1000 for a new die, when in reality, there is no rule or law that says which way a rim must go. So I would think they would just release them all backwards. Because there were frequently rotated or loose inserts of this strike, that is more evidence to back up human intervention. The question is at what point. Could have been the mint, could have been the cage at the casino, could have been a person who won a bunch, saw they were loose, reversed them and turned them back in. My money would be someone at the mint or the cage.
