Shane, a note from a old timer I received
In Response To: Just Some Questions ()

Shane, I received this note from a collector I have known and dealt with over the years, heck decades now as I think about it.

Dennis, Please post this for me. I would but do not want the ugly negative some people have.

You and I have been around long enough to see members come and go. Dealers who are in this hobby just for the money, they come and go too. Seems almost all of the beginners in our hobby have moved on and we now have a new group of collectors. As for collecting strikes most these days only are interested in the 4 Queens. Then the couple other casinos that have machines. Today's collectors seem to just want the new strikes. In fact will pay in my opinion crazy money for a clad strike and will pass on a real "silver" strike for much less. Yes a bunch of the collectors have moved to that facebook away from the strikepoint site where it used to be a lot of first trading of "silver" strikes and the fun of the hobby. Now most the posts if any are only about selling. A very few wants to trade. Strikepoint is drying up.

Let me throw this out there. Shaun at the 4 Queens who has been a HUGE supporter of our hobby has been around for a long long time. And I hope he is around for another set of long long times. (lol, play on words). But when he retires in say 100 years what will everyone have. Scrap metal. Those that collect the actual "silver" strikes will have something they can hang on to and some day at least melt down for a value there. Or will have like me some form of something of value I can pass on to my kids.

I sure would have rather seen the casinos switch to $20 face value "silver" strikes and a $400 all 12 ounces big one. I quit going to Vegas Baby when the clad junk came out. I can buy from you or someone else to fill my missing ones if I want to.

Please don't post my name.
