Why the struggle to sell?
In Response To: Re: Consider this Walt ()

Walt- I think the struggle to sell is in part due to the fact that people just don't move very fast on the Club Coin. I can only speak from my own experience, I think when I got the newsletters in print instead of electronic, I tended to read them over a few times. I read the newsletters once now in my email, and then I sort of forget to read them again. I think I will switch bad to newsletters in print for that reason. (I never can seem to get them to print in the right order to print the e-version). I think we could do a little better job marketing the coin, all of the long time members know about it, maybe some of the newer members don't realize how important it is as a fundraiser. I would be very happy to contribute time toward that effort. Jo and Jeff have done a really good job and if there is anything I can do in the future to help them (ad slick, independent web site, setup Paypal for alternate payment, do inventory, store, ship, etc) I would be more than happy to volunteer here and now. I'll go ahead and send Bill an email to that effect, just in case he doesn't see this post.

I still disagree about the lack of support. I think there is a core of support, just like any club and then there are varying degrees of commitment after the core. So what we need to do is add more collectors to the core group of support. It is really hard to do that because there are not enough strike machine now (lets hope that changes) to get people excited about the hobby. One way the club can help show the casinos we are interested in supporting their programs is to be able to brag about how many Club Coins we sold. This year we raised the white flag and didn't exactly convince any new casino to come onboard, we only did a 100. If you were a casino boss, that wouldn't convince you the club will support your programs. Club members aren't the only ones who play thankfully, we are helped by tourist looking for souvenirs.

I would love to run, but not to run the club the way I want. The club is run pretty darn well by volunteers who for the most part don't get much thanks. But, I have to be realistic about my ability to be an officer from here in Ohio, knowing my Vegas experience is limited to one or two trips a year and no way possible to do the January event because of other business commitments. But someday, you'll see my name on a ballot....
