Dave - What a guy, punching out centers to weigh them to show what I have thought all along, it was poor quality control by the different mints that cause the different weights (plus the fact they didn't have to state an exact weight on the strike).. I have weighed 15 of the older (pre 2002) strikes and found all were under the .60oz weight. All the ones I weighed were between .590 and .598 oz. I do think you made a good point and you more than likely would have sold the strikes for more on ebay but then you have ebay fees. Also just to throw something else in the mix I have found the brass rings to be different in weight also so one can't say for sure what a given center will weigh until it is punched out and weighed.
Who would have thought 3 years ago that the silver weight would be so important, how the times do change.
