Silver Strike Program

Here is another idea. Based on the letter, IGT is offering to sell the Silver Strike machines to the casinos. Doesn't that imply that they can use the name Silver Strike without having to pay IGT anything? I would guess while IGT may want to keep the trademark, they would license the name for use with no fee. They mention nothing about paying them for the name if you buy the machine. Maybe buying the machine comes with the right to use the name?

What if we identified a gaming corporation, such as Boyd (think national, most casinos have strike machines still, etc.) and approached them as a club, maybe sign a petition, and propose to them that they buy the Silver Strike program from IGT, and put strike machines in all their casinos. They would have the exclusive rights to Silver Strikes machines. Here's what we give them:

1. The annual convention would be at a Boyd Casino/Hotel.
2. The annual slot tournament would be at a Boyd Casino/Hotel.
3. The draw of having SS club members going to Boyd Properties. SS club members don't just always play SS machines, they also do other gambling, thus bringing more customers to the Boyd Casinos.
4. Free advertising for Boyd properties in the SS club newsletter and on the SS club web site.
5. Design ideas, support, quantities, etc. to keep the program fresh and evolving.

Boyd has the following properties:
Illinois - Par-A-Dice Casino
Indiana - Blue Chip Casino
Louisiana - Delta Downs, Sam's Town, Treasure Chest
Mississippi - Sam's Town
New Jersey - Borgata
Nevada - California, Eldorado, Fremont, Gold Coast, Joker's Wild, Main Street, Orleans, Sam's Town, Sun Coast, and soon to be Echelon Place.

Harrah's is even much larger, with a larger national and international presence. Perhaps since they seem to be bringing strikes back, maybe they would be the first choice.

Bottom line is if we want the strike program to continue, we need to take action. There should probably be a SS board meeting to address this issue and come up with an action plan. There should be Club contact with IGT to see what is happening with the trademark on the name Silver Strike. Perhaps they would give it to the club as thanks for the years of support??? It's not time for gloom and doom, it's not the end of the program at this point, but if we sit back and do nothing, it shows them that we don't care. Contact with casinos should probably be done by Board members, so the same consistent message gets across, but these contacts should be backed up with Petitions signed by all of us. If we make enough noise, and have a valid action plan, we can convince someone to keep the program going. I don't think IGT is going to change their mind though.

Dave.
